Fangirling Since 1983

Now that I have finished my secret Santa fic I’m catching up on what’s been posted so far. I really love that time between a fic being posted and the author reveal because I love trying to guess if I can figure out who wrote what. I feel like this is something that’s especially fun given how small the SGA fic writer pool currently is.

Anyone else do this?

It's been 26 days since I last wrote anything and that's not sitting well with me. In an effort to jolt myself into writing, here's a list of everything I currently have on my 'to write' list:

Woop! Thanks to my broadband being down for the whole of Thursday and Friday this week, I managed to remain distraction free and finished by fandom 5k pinch hit.

Phew. All posted and waiting to be revealed on June 15th.

I signed up to take part in the fandom 5k fic exchange last year on a whim and then promptly defaulted when I realised that I can pretty much only write in one fandom these days (because SGA has taken up permanent residence in my heart).

I hate defaulting and I was riddled with guilt for weeks (and then even more so when I still got gift fic which was AMAZING!) so I chose not to sign up this year.

And then the pinch hits went out..

And now I’m writing fic.

Hopefully pinch hitting will redeem my poor showing last year!

You know how you sometimes get an itch to read a very specific type of fic but can’t find it? And then you feel like you might have to write it yourself?

I’ve read more than a few fics where John becomes connected to Atlantis in a very tangible, avatar like way. And, like, I get that John has the super gene and all but I’ve always felt like Atlantis and Rodney were the OTP in that scenario. John may have the blood but Rodney has the heart.

I’ve been dying to find a fic that explores the idea of Rodney having that kind of connection. And now I feel like I’m in the tatto artist Rodney boat or the John aged by Wraith boat all over again and may have to write it myself.

Although it would be a miracle if I manage to write anything these days! ::head desks::

I was struck by the urge to rewatch my favourite SGA episode tonight.

The Shrine is a hell of an episode. The first time I saw it, I cried and I marvelled at David Hewlett's performance. I think I must be on at least rewatch number 20 of it and I still cried but over time my marvelling has switched from David to Joe Flanigan.

Joe really just acts his fucking heart out in this episode (sorry for the potty mouth but I'm Scottish, we express emotion through swearing). I think every time I watch the episode I spot another John moment that takes my breath away. Tonight it was two moments in the cave, the first when they get there and Rodney is crying and John tries to distract him by showing him how cool the waterfall is. It's just - it's the type of thing you would distract a crying kid with and that John does it to Rodney is just - - there aren't words.

And then, later, when John is busy getting the food out while Keller tests her hypothesis by trying to take Rodney out of the caves and - - man, that first cry of pain from Rodney and John is just THERE. Like lightning.

So, yeah, you'll pry McShep out of my cold dead hands; never mind what the last thirty seconds of the episode says.

The other great thing about The Shrine is all the fics it has inspired. I was curious about how many fics I'd written around that episode and it turns out I've only written 6. It feels like a lot more.

The age-old question:

Do you power through it and try to throw words on paper anyway or do you take a break and wait until the words come back?

**Edit**: Thank you to everyone for their suggestions! A few of you suggested that I try doing something else so I pulled out an abandoned fic that was stagnant at 300 words and finished it.

Almost all of them are McShep. There's a couple of gen fics thrown in and one McKay/Caldwell just because I love that ship so freaking much and there's practically zero fic out there for it.

Normal levels of angst will now resume!

The first draft of my first reverse bang fic is done! I have no idea how much editing it will need, not even gonna look at it again until tomorrow but hallleluja, I have a draft!!

Feeling much more confident about getting fic # 2 done in time now!

I’ve been toying with an idea for SGA fic for a while but I’m trying to get it straight in my heads as to what the SGCs policy on sending people with a need for long-term medication would be.

We know that the first Atlantis expedition was expected to be a one-way mission. (Let’s ignore the fact that they were woefully under resourced for that for now)

How would that affect the approval of expedition members with medication needs?

Diabetics and insulin? HIV positive people with their meds? Trans people and their HRT? Someone who’d had a transplant and needed anti-rejection meds?

Would they be refused or would the SGC just give them a years supply and wish them well? (I mean, it’s the SGC so it would probably be like a month supply lbr. Where was their stores of food? Or stuff to trade? Ugh! But I digress.)

Anyway, I’d be really interested to hear other people’s opinion
