Fangirling Since 1983

I had such grand plans for my week off. We were going to get so much done in the house and (despite being restricted to our city limits because of COVID tiers) we were going to go on walks and get out and enjoy the fresh air and decent weather before winter really kicks in.

So much for that.

We did manage to get the old, wood-rotted, garden shed that the previous owners left for us torn down which is good because I had hired a skip for that very purpose and didn’t want it clogging up the drive any longer than necessary.

Now that our old house has sold we can think about starting works at the new house (or at least getting quotes because I doubt any work will get done before Christmas. I don’t know if it’s the same where you are but contractors and trades are snowed under here and even harder to pin down than usual). Great, I thought. Stuck in the house so let’s get the ball rolling on the external render works we need done and get a quote, see if he needs us to level the garden first so we can arrange that...the guy we want to do it (he’s been recommended by three different people) is on holiday this week so we can’t even get that started.

On the plus side I’ve managed to get some writing done. Secret Santa fic is finished and beta’d (thank you logicgunn! I even posted a ficlet that has been languishing in my WIP folder for over a year!

It’s been nice not being at work. Let’s focus on that!

I wrote 4 out of 7 days this week which considering I was ill early in the week is ok by me.

Still working on the Secret Santa fic, chipping away slowly at it in small (almost) daily chunks. I decided not to detour into another fic idea until this is done - no matter how much I may want to whump Rodney right now!

Sitting at 3.7k at the moment, I’ve revised the finishing word count up from 5k to around 6k.

I’m still enjoying it, trying not to edit as I go, just dumping words on the page and I’ll go back and clean it all up, add or delete sections at the end.

Here’s to possibly finishing it next week!

goddess47 posted about mini_wrimo which seemed an excellent challenge to keep up the good work that I started in October with my Comfortween prompts to slide myself back into the habit of writing every day.

I signed up to do a minimum of 200 words a day and I’m pleased to report that I managed more than that every day this week. Not much more than that but I’m aiming for slow and steady here, especially because work is manic at the moment.

I’ve been working on my sga_secretsanta fic and I’m already at the 2k marker. I don’t know how long it will end up, I’m cautiously guessing 5k at the moment but who the heck knows. The editing process can change everything.

Still, I wrote every day this week and I’m not hating what I wrote so I count that as win.

I started this week three prompts ahead of where I needed to be only to find myself a day behind today. I think having the work computer set up in the house again this week put me right back into lockdown mode where I was working much longer hours than normal just because the computer was always there, waiting.....

Still, I haven’t turned it on at all today and I managed to catch up to Prompt 18 so I’m back on track.

Working at the office this week (we’re now rotating in and out on a weekly basis) so will hopefully keep to schedule this week. 🤞🏼
