One week down, fifty-one to go.

I had a pretty quiet New Years Day, spent most of the day on the couch under a blanket trying to shift the last remnants of the bug that had been hanging around me since before Christmas. My work started up again after the break on Wednesday so I really wanted to have the bug shifted by then.

It's still not quite gone but I'm feeling much better than I was so I'm calling it a win.

Work was frustrating. I had deadlines for committee papers that needed to be finished by Friday but was waiting on information from someone else in my department and didn't get it until an hour before finishing time on Friday. I had thrown most of the paper together earlier so I just had to make some updates based on that new information but it was still stressful. One budget paper down, two to go! Have I mentioned that I hate budget season?

Saturday was family day. Me, my Mum, my sister, my Aunt, my cousin, my Mum's cousin and my Mum's cousin's daughter went through to Edinburgh for the day for shopping (I hate shopping), lunch and (the main reason) to see Shrek The Musical.

I really wasn't expecting to enjoy Shrek The Musical but I really really loved it. The costumes were amazing and the songs surprisingly good! It ended up being a pretty enjoyable day; we went to the Christmas Market in Princes Street Gardens afterwards which was nice. Edinburgh looked beautiful all lit up. The train back home was fun too, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

George and I made a New Years Resolution to do more with our one day off together (I'm 9-5 Mon - Fri and he's night shift Tues - Sat) and we didn't fall down on the first Sunday of the year! It was a cold but sunny day so we drove over the water to St Andrews and had a wee wander down to the cliffs and the beach. It was a good day. It's been a pretty good week.

On the writing front, I made a start on my Apocalypse Kree fic. The prompt I claimed sparked an immediate idea in me but my first attempt at writing kind of took it in a different direction and I could see it growing arms and legs....so, I binned the 2k I had already wrote and pared it back to the simpler fic I had in my head from the moment I read the prompt. It's finished at under 800 words which is super short but is the story I wanted to tell. I'll hopefully re,ember and post it when posting begins on the 16th.

I think I'm gonna tackle my pic for 1000 fic next which I think might end up filling a square in my trope bingo card as well! I'm also at the planning stage for Romancing McShep. I think I know what I wanna write, it's an idea I had a while ago but never got round to. Hopefully it works on paper as well as it does in my head.

So, no fics posted this week but writing was done, I promise!

I’m sorry you’ve been sick. A lot of people were ill over the holidays. I had a bad allergic reaction myself, but that’s almost gone. Sorry also that work is stressful. But I’m glad you had a nice day with your family. I probably wouldn’t have been able to do all that, and I’m not sure I’d want to see Shrek also, but live theatre is enchanting. It’s always a little “more” than other experiences.

Like you, The Colonel and I are trying to do more fun stuff together, and yesterday we spent the afternoon at a state park here in Oregon. We took the dog and explored for a few hours. It was very low key and a lovely day.

Can’t wait to read the new fic!
