2019: 21-31
May. 27th, 2019 07:35 pmThe good:
George and I were through in Edinburgh yesterday to see Manic Street Preachers play at Usher Hall and it was an awesome day filled with good food, great company and amazing music. Seriously, the Manics were fantastic. I haven’t really listened to them since the anniversary album they were touring came out (way back in 1998, ye gods) but I was reminded how utterly fantastic they are. It’s also sort of terrifying that a lot of their songs (cough, If You Tolerate This, cough) are so much more relevant in today’s society than they were black then.
The bad:
Work. Ugh. So many hours spent in the office this week, way more than is healthy and I was left with absolutely zero motivation or energy to do anything when I eventually dragged myself home. It’s basically all down to the new actuarial pension valuation and how we present this in the accounts. We didn’t get the full information from the actuary until Wednesday at like quarter past five which meant the accounts couldn’t be finished. When I left on Friday they still hadn’t come back from the auditors so I had to pull together a Board paper on the assumption that all was A-OK and hope for the best.
The hopeful:
There is light at the end of the work tunnel. Company A should be finished this week once I hear back from the auditor (they have a deadline of tomorrow which is an extension of 3 days for them). Company 2’s audit is done and I’m waiting on the audit report but the Board deadline for that one is the end of next week so after that I should be over the worst of it.
The frustrating:
Finance Manager post still not advertised (although to be fair my boss who should be putting it out was helping me figure out the pension info last week). Still undecided but I’m thinking I will probably put my hat in the ring...
The panic inducing:
I didn’t write a single word last week. Fandom5k fic due this Saturday.......
