Our Director confirmed today that they will be creating a second Finance Manager post and I’m in two minds about whether I would want to apply or not.

It’s the next logical step for me and would be a boost to my CV. It’s more money, obviously. But I’m worried that it will be a case of the Director and the current Finance Manager dumping all the responsibilities they don’t want onto a new role and I’m not really fancying that.

Hopefully the advert, when it goes up, will have more detail but I’m willing to bet it won’t.

Hmmmm, what to do?

You're right about the advert being no help.

If you think you want to try, then do apply but you know enough to ask specific questions about the role. As in, "do you see the new person doing X?" sort of thing. Go in with a list of key things you have concerns about, and ask... the worse they can do is say 'no' and you don't get the position.

And, maybe, things they don't like to do, you will... that's always a factor.

Although, there's always the worst case sort of thing that what they tell you in the interview isn't what really happens... sad to say. Hopefully, since you're a known quantity, that they're relatively honest about it...

Good luck, whatever you do!

I'd suggest waiting for the advert to see if it provides more detail, and then doing as goddess47 suggested and ask questions.
