Day 6

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

1. Podficcing for beginners

I know nothing about podficcing. I do know someone who lost their eyesight last year and while I always knew podficcing was a great idea it really hammered the point home to me. All that being said, I really want to get into podficcing this year, even if it’s just my own fics to start off with. What I would love is some tips on what kind of equipment or software I need from anyone out there who knows about this stuff! Any help is appreciated.

2. Prompts

When I started writing fics I wrote almost exclusively based on prompts that people sent in to me. There’s something about writing something for someone else that lights a fire under my heels. I know prompt based comms exist but they just don’t hold that same level of excitement for me so I’m asking for specific prompts that anyone would like to see me write. I’m pretty exclusively in the SGA fandom these days and McShep is my go to but I’ll write gen or Rodney/anyone too!

I can’t promise to fill them all (that’s part of what pushed me out of MCU; the pressure and complaints when I didn’t fill something quick enough) but I can promise to do my best and let you know if the idea doesn’t grab my muse.

3. Art Recs

I’ve only been in the SGA fandom for a few years and I know that I’m missing so much great art that must have been done back in the day so any art recs you have would be welcomed with all the thanks in the world!

4. Oh, and if anyone wants to do a banner or icon for the new SGA Writing Fest that popkin16 and I are putting together, that would be amazing! Drop me a message if you’re interested in helping out!

Hello, new podfic friend! Welcome to the team. :)

Much of the podfic community is on Twitter and Discord (previously Tumblr, but IDK anymore). The Dragongirl wrote a Highly Biased and Incomplete Tutorial on how to get started.

If you want to use an external mic, I can PM you some recommendations, based on your budget. (There's also an equipment channel on the Discord, if you use that platform.)

In that case, my recs are the Samson GoMic (if you need the space) or the Blue Snowball mic, if you can handle something larger. If you want to get started immediately, you can always use your phone to record on.

This is a comprehensive resource, tbh

For software, you just need audacity. It's free open source software, and there is SO MUCH information about audacity. I started out with garageband (on mac) but audacity is so much better.

For mics... any cheap one will do.

With regards to reading, I'll advice you to brush your teeth before reading, tbh. I found that oral health is important when it comes to podficcing. Good luck!

I love doing prompts!

-Instead of fake dating, Rodney and Sheppard have to pretend to be enemies for a mission. At first it goes well, since their sniping at one another is easy to misinterpret, but soon the way everyone thinks they're enemies starts to get to them.
-Instead of coming with the mission from earth, Rodney is actually a Pegasus native--maybe one of the Athosians, or maybe a Hoth who got away?
-Rodney has a particular type of amnesia: he can't remember anything, except John (or maybe his team, depending on how you want to go there).
-Something terrible happens to Teyla and Ronon, and they're trapped offworld. Everyone thinks they're dead, and whoever's in charge of Atlantis won't give John and Rodney permission to go after them...but they're not going to let that stop them.
-Rodney returns from a vacation to Earth, kind of unsettled by how ill-at-ease being on earth made him, and how much more comfortable he is with Atlantis (and the people there ^^)
-John turns into a dragon (and is having the time of his life, what with the whole flying thing). Circumstances arise such that Rodney has to take a flight--dragonback.
-Rodney is sent to infiltrate John's terrorist group (maybe they're fighting repressive Ancients in an alternate Atlantis?) This is a terrible idea in its own right, since he's terrible at infiltration. Luckily John seems to like him... unluckily, he's beginning to agree with John's ideas.
-Rodney attempts to bake John a birthday cake.

Don't worry about it if none of these catches your eye! The absolute last thing I want to do is put pressure on someone. I mean, I'd be delighted to read them, but I really like coming up with prompts--for me that's its own reward :)

Prompts:
1. Rodney keeps dreaming of falling and it bothers him to know end. He's always right on the edge of the building roof when he falls. Why is he having the recurring dream?

2. John wants to take Rodney on a trip to a place where John has been before. One that is filled with beauty and happiness. John knows that Rodney will love it once they get there. But of course, Rodney is dragging his feet.

3. Rodney is keeping a personal journal and begins to list all of his regrets and some of his greatest accomplishments. He has more accomplishments than regrets which is a good thing. What are his regrets?
