respoftw | 2018: 38-14

Work was ok this week. There were some interdepartmental issues thrown up between Finance and our maintenance company that were NOT handled well (we had one lady needing to take the afternoon off because she was so upset by the way they spoke to her) so the Director of our department has had to get involved. Fun and games. They also said some inappropriate things to me but I’m better equipped to let it roll off my back. I did have to go for a walk away from my computer before I replied though. Emailing in anger is never a good idea!

My colleague whose cancer has come back went off this week as well because of health issues, we’ll find out tomorrow if this is her off long term (ie FINALLY getting treatment) or not.

But it wasn’t all bad. My boss who’s on maternity came in with her baby. So so cute. I got cuddles so it was a good day!

Saturday was Pokemon community day so we were out and about for that. It was also the first ever pride march in my hometown so, while we didn’t join the march, we cheered everyone on from the sidelines. The hometown of my youth wasn’t really known for being a very tolerant place and while a lot of it still isn’t, it’s making moves in the right direction and I’m proud of it for that. I also went to see my Gran on Saturday, it’s her 81st birthday this coming week. Her health’s not been particularly great these past few years but she seemed better than the last time I saw her so that’s good. Caught up on all the gossip from the extended family, even if she told me the same stories about three times in one afternoon!

Sunday we went to the farewell event for the Maggie’s penguin parade (a charity public arts project) which was fun, then out to St Andrews to enjoy the sunshine and have a wander. Had a really excellent light lunch at a new Korean place there. I love Korean food but it’s so hard to find in my area, we’ve had to go all the way to Edinburgh to find it before now so I’m glad there’s something closer!

So, I got some not kind messages about my writing which I’ve tried to shake off but it has thrown me a bit so I’ve not done much writing at all this week, just a super short fluff fic. I’m generally pretty upbeat about my own writing - I know my limitations and acknowledge my weaknesses but I don’t think I’m terrible and I’m pretty good for someone who is much better with numbers than with words - but all it takes is that one person (I hope it was one person) to say you suck and plant that seed of doubt.

I’ve had lots of supportive messages though and I’m trying to push past it. I might take a break from the hurt/Comfort Bingo fills for a couple of weeks and really push on my sgareversebang fics.

I also have my graphics for the spook me prompts but neither of them are springing an idea so I may end up forfeiting on that challenge.

I think I’ve decided NOT to sign up for secret Santa this year. One, because I said I would help popkin with matching requests which I can’t do if I’m taking part and; two, because I think I’ve overextended myself on the reversebang. I’ll hopefully be able to help out with any pinch hits needed though.
