2018: 26-26
Jul. 1st, 2018 05:03 pmThe watchword for this week has been relaxation!
Monday was my first real day of holiday and it started with a breakfast date with George followed by a wee walk along the beach. George had plans to go out with his friends in the afternoon so, after dropping him off, I headed home where I spent the rest of the day relaxing. I managed to get another fill for my h/c Bingo written and watched Set It Up on Netflix, which I loved.
We went into the city centre on Tuesday, ate lunch at our favourite Thai place and I went shopping for a new pair of glasses. Pokemon also featured heavily with the both of us getting a lot of distance and filling up on items. We had to stay somewhat close to home as I had to go in to work Tuesday evening to attend a Board Meeting. My bit (the finance bit) usually gets done first and then I leave them to it. My bit normally lasts fifteen- thirty minutes but I ended up being there for over 90 minutes! All thanks to a last minute paper my boss wrote that I had to defend despite only seeing the paper fifteen minutes before the meeting! I’m a little annoyed because the only reason I agreed to come in (on my week off) was because my boss (who was supposed to cover for me) had an awards ceremony to attend. Turns out the award ceremony was cancelled and she was still there when I left the meeting after 7pm. Ah, it is what it is.
We had grand plans on Wednesday but ended up going back to bed after showering and getting ready for the day, whoops! By the time we both woke up again, it was too late to do what we originally had planned so we did some laundry and watched the two football games on instead. I wrote fic while it was on, lol.
Thursday was a scorcher so we headed to the coast. St Andrews is a gorgeous little town in Fife that is well worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Scotland. It was the university graduation day so the town was super busy with students and their families as well as the usual bus loads of tourists. We hung around the old Cathedral grounds for a while but when it got too busy we escaped to the botanic gardens and settled the picnic blanket under the shade of a tree and whiled away the afternoon. It was awesome!
Friday was another quiet one. George wasn’t feeling great and after pottering about in the garden in the morning he went for a nap after lunch and didn’t get up until 7pm. He fails at napping. Still, I managed to get some writing done while he napped!
Saturday, we drove through to Glasgow where we were staying overnight to go and see Roger Waters in concert. The west coast was about ten degrees hotter than the east coast so I was really glad for the air conditioning in the hotel. We also got a room on the shaded side of the hotel which did mean that there was no view of the River Clyde but being cool was more important! Sidebar, I hated the Roger Waters concert. I’m not really familiar with either Pink Floyd (beyond the obvious songs) or his solo stuff and I’m not converted. The staging really got my heckles up as well, it was so heavy handed on the political views and really preachy. Like, there was a whole thing during the intermission urging the crowd to resist Mark Zuckerburg and damning Facebook and I’m just sitting there gritting my teeth in annoyance because, ROGER WATERS HAS AN OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE!! Ugh.
We hung about Glasgow this morning, went for a morning walk before the heat really kicked in and then drove back home to do laundry, watch even more football and write more fic.
Last day off tomorrow before going back to work on Tuesday. Hopefully the week of relaxation and not doing much of anything will help.
I’ve had a super productive (for me) week with four short ficlets written and posted! I’ve also made planning progress on a longer fic that I’ve been eyeing for a while. Yay me! The week off from work has been exactly what I needed to recharge the creative battery!
I think my focus will be on finishing Three’s Company and getting a blackout bingo for Hurt/Comfort but I’m happy to go where my muse takes me. Let’s hope she’s around for a while!

Date: 2018-07-01 11:55 pm (UTC)I'm going to very cautiously start working on the wip I had. Partly because I still want to finish it, partly since it's a recovery fic and I've already gotten past most of the really whump stuff (not all, but the bigger chunks), and partly because, well, since this one features actually constructive dealing with trauma stuff, maybe it will help me move forward.
Or it will be a big mistake.
Anywho...
It sounds like you had a good vacation, concert and meeting aside. I hope you have a lovely day Monday too!

Date: 2018-07-03 03:14 am (UTC)I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the concert. But I think you mentioned before that George is th fan, not you. And I also seethe when confronted with hypocrisy. I hate it more than anything.
Been loving the stories, I’m glad you are getting the groove back.
I really hope you enjoy the rest of your time off.
