2017 in Fic

It's time for my yearly look at the statistics page on AO3.....(I know there's still a day and a half left of 2017 but I won't be posting any more before 2018 so...let me have this, ok?)

First Up, I know there are inherent issues with using the AO3 statistics page by year (any fics that were updated in more than one year show up in the year they were last updated which does affect 2017 stats for me since 'In Harmony' straddled both years) but I'm going with it for ease.

So, without further ado...here's some stats from my 2017 fics

These stats are waaay down on 2016 but I wrote exclusively in SGA this year which is a much smaller fandom. My 2016 stats did seem to benefit from the larger SW:TFA and MCU fandoms. However, McShep has taken over everything and I'm cool with that!

Although, I did write one non-McShep fic this year!!!

Kudos/Hits Ratio
Taking the multichap fics out (because of skewed hits) my least successful fic was A Gift From Atlantis with only 6.7% of the hits generating a kudos (side note, I love this fic!)

My most successful, with 17.94% of hits generating a kudos was To Russia, with love.

Writing Goals for 2018

I made a few writing goals for 2017 around this time last year which I actually managed to achieve! So, with that in mind, here are some goals for 2018.

1. Breach the 30k word count barrier
For the longest time, I struggled to write anything beyond 2-3k. There's nothing wrong with that and I still do find that length of fic to be my niche and what I'm best at but I really want to continue to develop my longer fic. I got past 20k in 2017, I'm coming for 30k in 2018!

2. Branch out pairing wise
I often bemoan the lack of fic in some of my rarer SGA pairings that I like and I need to stop moaning and start writing. In particular, I really want to write some Rodney/Ronon and Rodney/Caldwell.

3. Participate in more fic exchanges/writing challenges
At the moment I have Apocalypse Kree and picfor1000 in 2018 and have a couple of low-pressure bingo cards. I want to get involved a bit more on that side of things in 2018 (any suggestions or recommendations are welcome)

4. Keep Enjoying It
I fic for fun. I have zero interest in writing for a living; I'm an accountant and I'm much better with numbers than I ever will be with words. So, if I'm not enjoying the writing, I'm not doing it right!
