First off, thanks to [personal profile] popkin16 I've spent most of this week reading Sarah Madison's Sixth Sense series and I just adored it so so much. I seriously recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet. I'll admit to being a little jarred by the switch from third person POV to first person POV in the third book (for those of you who know me, my dislike of first person is legendary) but I was so invested in Parker and Flynn at that point that I persevered and I'm very glad I did! I also read Fools Gold which was fantastic and I'm deciding which of her books to read next!

Speaking of reading, my kindle died a death this week. I use my kindle A LOT, and I've gone through a lot of them since I got my first one back in 2010. It seems crazy that I've only had one for eight years, it seems so much longer than that! My last kindle, the one that died this week, is the one that's lasted me the longest, I think I've had it for maybe four years? Alas, the place where the charger connects has broken so I bit the bullet and ordered a paperwhite this week. I really hate the fact that I can't turn it off completely but am liking it otherwise. All of my McShep favourites have been moved over so I'm all good!

I've been a bit bothered with my back this week, with a low grade ache in the small of it since Monday which has made standing and walking a bit uncomfortable. George is very much an advocate of the 'keep moving and it'll get better' school of thought while I want to just sit on the couch and not move! We've compromised a bit on that this week, lol. I had taken Wednesday off work to hang with him since he's off all week and we had plans to go through to Edinburgh for shops and Pokemon but the weather was terrible and I could barely move so we stayed in and built the Lego he got for Christmas instead.

It's been nice spending some time with him, our normal schedules are so opposite that we're usually ships in the night and the one day we do get off together he's usually shattered from having worked all night. Spending quality time with him like this week reminds me how much I've missed him since he went on permanent night shift.

We're off together tomorrow as well and it's supposed to be a nice day so my back will hopefully behave and let us make the most of it!

Because I've been spending so much quality time with George (and been so busy with reading all those books!) I've not written anything this week. I did post my [community profile] apocalypse_kree fic though! My next writing challenge is [community profile] romancingmcshep and I think I have a workable idea! My initial plan was to write a version of the SG1 episode Ascension with John as the ascended being that followed Rodney through the gate back to Atlantis but the more I planned it out, the more I realised how different the whole Ascension thing was in that episode compared to later ones and it just wasn't making sense to me. Anyway, I trawled through the backlog of prompts on that comm and one jumped out at me. I've written the first two sentences (finding a way to open a fic is always the hardest part for me) and have a semi-solid plan of how it will go. The next couple of weeks is gonna be all about this fic.

Although I might find the time to write a Rodney wears panties fic for [personal profile] popkin16 as a thank you for all the fic she's pushed my way lately.....Wish me luck!

I’m sorry your back is hurting. I hope you get to feeling better soon. In the last few years, I’ve put my back out several times, once just getting up from sitting in a chair. I never thought I’d have a tricky back, I exercise yoga is part of that. Sweeping the decks outside will do it to me also.

Although The Colonel and I have never worked opposite schedules, he traveled a great deal for his military career, and for his last posting at the Pentagon, he often worked 14 hour days. One time he came home around 5:00, and The Kid asked him why he was home, he said, “I live here” to which The Kid replied, “not before 6:30!” It has taken a long, long time to adjust to his retirement. The permanent change to night shift has got to be challenging.
