I started October still off on annual leave from work (two and a half weeks off sounds great until you come back to hundreds of emails waiting for your attention). Still, I had a Neil Diamond concert to enjoy before I started dealing with the emails and, despite a bizarre set list (no "Hello" wtf?) I enjoyed it. I think this was the fifth time George and I had seen him and it probably ranks as the third best he's been so not too bad.
Coming back to work wasn't great. We've all got distinct areas of responsibility in my team which is great most of the time but does mean that your areas don't really get looked at while you're off. There were a few bits of mail on my desk that were overdue for replies so it was a stressful first week back but I caught up and am now officially done with Q2 accounts. Of course, November means budgets but I'll worry about that later.
George and ended up going to three concerts this month. Neil Diamond as mentioned above. Then Michael Kiwanuka was playing in Perth (and what a novelty it was to be able to drive there and back on the same night without having to shell out for a hotel). He was amazing. I hadn't listened to much of his stuff before going (George is the big fan in the house) but I have both his albums on my iPod now.
Last concert of the month was Weezer. I've loved Weezer since the blue album but this was my first time seeing them live and they were amazing. Definitely the best concert of the year so far. (Phil Collins in December still to come).
Other notable things this month included my niece's second birthday. She's adorable but, damn, she's definitely getting to that troublesome toddler stage, tantrums and all. Her cake was a caterpillar and, after blowing out the candles she demanded the marzipan face which she took great glee in trying to eat whole. Apparently I was the only one who thought that was a bit sinister?
There was also a staff celebration night at my work to celebrate the 50th birthday of the company. It was a weird night. Friday night, free booze, and yet the senior team still seemed shocked that people were too busy drinking and talking to pay attention to the staff speeches at the beginning of the night? It was a weird mix of half staff conference and half night out that didn't really work. There was ceilidh band which is always a laugh. Watching everyone try to remember the Scottish country dancing they forced us to do in school is always entertaining. The Gay Gordons was the only one I actually knew the steps to but the rest came back as the night went on.
So, that was October. November looks set to be busy work wise but we've not got much planned personally. Let's see what it brings!
