What was I watching this week?

I’d fallen behind on season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery so I spent a chunk of my Saturday catching up on that and, damn, this series is going from strength to strength. Michelle Yeoh steals every single episode she’s in, I love her Georgiou so so much. I really like how grey the character is, she’s not an outright villain and the writers are humanising her. I also think Anson amount is the most perfect Pike ever and I’m really liking Ethan Peck as Spock.


What was I reading this week

Nothing new. It was a week of reading old favourite fics. I had a hankering for DADT repeal fics so I read about half a dozen of those. Book wise, I’m currently reading The Lingering by SJI Holliday which was a random pick up from Waterstones last weekend. It’s a slow starter but intriguing. I’m hoping my attention doesn’t wander before I finish which happens more and more often to me these days.


What was I writing this week?

amycooper tagged me in a tumblr dialogue prompt post a while ago and I accepted the challenge to write one fic with all six lines of dialogue from the prompt in it. So I got around to actually following through on that this week. As mentioned above, I was reading a lot of DADT repeal fic so that’s the direction I went. Telling Rodney on AO3

I’m starting to plan my atlantisfilmfestival fic but I’m torn between three films at the moment. I think I might dedicate one night this week to each and see which flows better and take it from there.

I do this thing where I get in the mood for a fic, which makes me think of another fic, and suddenly I have 10 tabs open. I get super committed to those tabs and will leave them open until I read those fics - so sometimes I end up with tabs open from like, months ago.

That said, I've been reading random McShep fic all week.

Do you mind sharing what three movies? I already know mine, but I have to do some things first before I get it started.

Lol. I’m very studiously NOT looking at the six open tabs I’ve had for a month,,,,

My current choice of movies (and this is almost an everchanging list) are:

Speed (Rodney’s drivers licence expired while he was in Siberia so he’s forced to get the bus. Just typical that he chooses the bus with a bomb on it. It’s an AU where John never joined the AF so he’s Keanu Reeves without the buzz cut instead)

The Shape of Water (Bug John captured and studied by the lab that Rodney works in. He falls in love and rescues him)

Before Sunset (this would be a sequel to my fic ‘It Happened in Vienna’ which is based on Before Sunrise. The premise would be that they never did meet again because Rodney got the Atlantis call. It’s X years later, Atlantis crashed and burned and they meet in Paris while John is doing a book tour for the book he wrote about their night in Vienna.)

Oh my godddd I thought I could help you choose but I really can't. I want them alllll. I love the idea of Shape of Water and Before Sunset the most, I think, but by such a narrow margin. I need to win the lottery so I can pay you to write, lol.

I'm going to agree with you fully on Georgiou, Pike and Spock... I was wary about a new Spock and he's similar enough yet different enough - you can see how he'll grow into Nimoy's Spock.

My DADT repeal fic taste runs somewhat towards the angsty, lol. But I’ll work on pulling a list together :)
