2019:1-51 Fandom Update

So, I’m experimenting with a format for a weekly update. I’m gonna separate fandom and personal stuff and see how that works... Bear with me until I get this right...

What was I watching this week?

The Haunting of Hill House ate my brain this week. I started watching it on Tuesday and finished it on a Friday and it was freaking amazing. I haven’t read the book (although it has now been downloaded to my kindle) so I can’t compare it; I’ve heard it’s very different. It wasn’t as scary as I feared. Ghosts and the paranormal usually freak me out but I was able to put the light out every night without a second thought. For me, it was less about ghosts and more about family. The end was beautiful and made me cry. Highly recommend 9/10.

I also caught up on the last couple episodes of Lucifer season 3. Knowing that it ended on a cliffhanger and was (temporarily) cancelled, I had made the choice not to finish it but seeing as Netflix has picked it up for a fourth season I figured it was safe to watch and HOLY CRAP! I am sooooo glad it didn’t end there! I’m super excited about season 4!

What was I reading this week

I’ve been reading The First Prime Universe by LadyRa. I haven’t read much SG-1 fic but I love LadyRa’s SGA fic and the pairing for this intrigued me so I started reading and devoured the first two parts this week. It’s reminding me how much I love Jack O’Neill which I count as a win.

Outside of fanfic I’ve been reading ‘Pride: The Unlikely Story of the Unsung Heroes of the Miners’ Strike’ which covers the same story as the wonderful film ‘Pride’. I loved the film so much and got the book for Christmas. I’ve only read a couple of chapters so far so can’t comment much on it yet.

What was I writing this week?
Not much! Writers block set in hard and I spent most of the week flitting from WIP to WIP, adding a few words here and there. I did manage to finish off a fic that I started back in June last year which you can find here. I thought aftercare as a kink would be pretty niche (ie, only of interest to me) but I’ve had so many wonderful comments on it which is both surprising and very welcome!

OMG - yes, yes, yes @ Haunting of Hill House. I don't/can't do scary movies or tv shows, but I heard so much about it online so I gave it a chance. I was glued to my sofa, then realized I needed to take a break after like four episodes in a row -- promised myself I'd give myself a week and then was back two days later to finish. I mean ... my heart for that family. I'm so excited that it is getting another season, I am so enthralled with that house.

It was sooo good! I hadn’t heard it was getting a second series, that’s great news!! Although, hasn’t that family suffered enough!!

I don't know anything about it -- but I've heard a couple of possible rumors (I don't know how you feel about spoilers so I won't say anything, I'm hugely ANTI spoiler but I was too curious :D). But, bless that family. Like -- my heart broke every episode ;_;

Sounds good! I'm staying away from the rest of the spoilers. I prefer my life spoiler-free (outside of the intense curiosity that hit me, LOL).

This seems like a nice way to do your weekly report, but I'm always interested in what is happening with your work week also. I have enjoyed Lady Ra's stories since I joined the fandom, I don't read as much SG-1 stories, but here's are great fun. You'll have to let us know what you think of The First Prime Universe. I liked it a lot. I can feel you on writer's block. I find it terribly difficult sometimes to think of new projects for art. I am actually supposed to be working on a cover for a story from Mel, but it is driving me crazy. I guess being sick hasn't helped...

I started the third part of First Prime last night before bed but the Supernatural crossover elements is putting me off. I really don’t like that show and I super don’t ship Castile but I’ll persevere because I really, really love the Jack characterisation in this series.

I read Haunting of Hill House many years ago, so while I can say, "The show is very different", I couldn't really give you details. But man, the show? It has really stuck with me. I loved it. It's the reason my desire to watch Leverage has come back full force - Timothy Hutton! HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME FEEL THINGS.

I can't get into SG1 fic, it's so weird. Or maybe not, since I like the characters, but don't LOVE them like I do on SGA.

John cuddling Rodney and petting his hair is such an amazing, sweet image that has really stuck with me ♥ I went to sleep thinking about that moment of your fic.
