Teen Wolf revisited

I was heavily into Teen Wolf fic back in the day (2013/14 to be specific) but as the show just got crappier and crappier and as Sterek fics started to blur into one I ended up drifting away.

Then I got tasked with writing a werewolf fic for SGA Secret Santa and decided to revisit some of my favourites.

And have now detoured into a full on revival of my Steter shipping days. I’ve spent a fun couple of weeks rereading my old favourites and catching up on the classics that have been posted after I moved on.

One of the things that it is kicking up for me though is just how much I prefer the future fics where the characters are no longer teenagers. Maybe it’s SGA having inured me to older characters, maybe it’s the fact that I’m now approaching my late 30s..who knows?

Anyone have any TW recs that fit with my need for the characters to be at least in their 20s??

No fic recs, I've never even seen TW, but I agree on preferring older characters in my fics. Maybe it's about how we relate to their troubles and joys more easily? It's hard to read a fic about a teen or a group of teens and not want to give them advice or stop them doing something dumb that you did in your youth. Though there's some nostalgia in teen fics. There are a couple of teen McShep fics that I adore.

But yes, I agree on your reasoning. Those days are too long ago for me to relate to!

I don't have any Steter, but is Sterek okay?

I fell out of it once I realized the crappy turns weren't going to change and that the show was basically killing itself :| but, weirdly, Sterek is still one of those ships I aware of and have a few perma-saved on the desktop. I'm pretty sure some of them are older -- that's personally where I'm more comfortable with my Sterek. :D

Soo...most are a bit porny. 😬 I feel like for a long while TW was hard not to have porn. And I'll admit, most of these I haven't reread but they'r din my TW folder :) The summaries are from the fics themselves. Hope one or some of them fit the bill. 🙃

Stiles is 27 now, with a master’s degree and a career and a house and a serious boyfriend
and a life in San Francisco that doesn't include Derek. But then Stiles unexpectedly shows
back up in Beacon Hills, and Derek would recognize that scent anywhere.

Stiles comes back to Beacon Hills during the new moon in April.

This is part of a series -- it starts off with Stiles still in high school but each chapter continues outward through college and after. Not sure if that's a thumbs up or not because of the HS.

“Still don’t want to,” Stiles says.
“I’ll pay you,” Derek says, and that… that has Stiles interested. Alf’s Antique’s may be a
great job, but it’s not a high-paying job, and half of Stiles’s tuition is coming from financial
aid, so…
“How much,” Stiles asks, “are we talking here? Because I know your family, dude. And
it’ll be kind of awkward after.“
“My family thinks you’re some sort of fucking gift to the world,” Derek seethes, like he’s
jealous, “they’ll probably be pissed at me when we break it off, so don’t worry about that.
Five hundred bucks.”
“A thousand,” Stiles says, because screw ethics. Also, the Hale family is loaded. Derek
can deal.
It's an AU but both are adults, if I recall

Electricity in the Contact
In which Derek has been invited to the Greater Pacific Northwest Alpha Symposium
(that's not what it's called, Stiles, stop saying that), and showing up unattached would
mean an arranged marriage. When the rest of the pack objects, he agrees to let Stiles come
along to pose as his mate. Derek is reasonably sure that he's not going to make it out of this
weekend alive.

Yeah, I think that’s one of the other reasons I moved away from TW, it was really difficult to find nonporny fic for those times when you’re not in the mood for that! These sound great xx

Anthracite is a perfect story... long and plotty... there's some Scott!bashing, but, it explains perfectly the "True Alpha" mess

(Sacred) In the Ordinary is the pack all grown up and working to take over the town... no character bashing that I remember.

the one that's a little bit party of five - full AU - Stiles and Lydia are barely out of their teens, raising a pack of wolves; just, it's good, go read it!

A Wild Heart's Desire - total AU - Derek and Stiles are both single parents, chaos ensues

Break Me Like a Promise -- a really cool TW/MCU crossover where Stiles works for Tony Stark, learns magic and grows up... I adore this story!


I haven't read the majority of the stories but both Sterek and Steter Secret Santa just dropped a lot of new stories over the holidays... check that out on AO3...

I had to search out fics for older Stiles and Derek and mostly what I found was college aged!Stiles, which might still be too young? I'll link them anyway in *shrug*

I love that the SGA fandom is so big that I can look at fics I know I've read and be like, "I have not read them in a long time and can barely remember them." It means that old fics always feel fresh :D
