Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day 1

Day 1

In your own space, talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year?

I literally only heard of this challenge a day or two ago so I've not got any stories about how this challenge has affected me but, you know what has affected me?

Fandom.

I love fandom.  Just having a bunch of people who connect with each other and support each other, all drawn together because of an intense love of a show or a ship or a character or a book...it's a magical thing.  I don't have anyone in my real life to share my love of fandom things with, I pretty much exclusively engage with fandom online and it's a genuinely huge part of my life.  And it's a part of my life that gets me through tough times but it's also a part of my life that I can feel guilty in indulging in.

So, I'm participating in this challenge because I want to celebrate fandom and remind myself why I love it so much.

Fandom is a huge part of my life, too, and like you, I engage almost exclusively with people online. Your comment here is exactly what makes this challenge so wonderful.

Re the guilty feeling, I get these too sometimes but then again it’s about spreading love really, and that can never be a bad thing :-)

Aw comparison with others usually ends up making one feel bad. I know because I do it all the time. ;-)

I hope so too.

Among the things that help me keep up with posting:

* Communities like [community profile] snowflake_challenge that offer a new prompt every day.

* Recurring post topics that I write down in my daily calendar. I do a Monday Update and a social post every Wednesday (Good News, Hard Things, or Cuddle Party). At the beginning/end of the month, I make roundup posts to my communities, [community profile] allbingo and [community profile] crowdfunding. In winter, I talk about birdfeeding; in summer, I talk about yardening.

Some other folks list what they are reading or watching. All that matters is finding something you do frequently so you can keep posting about it.

It takes a couple of weeks to establish an easy habit, up to a couple of months for a hard one. 15 days is a good start.

Can I just copy and paste this onto my journal? Because everything you said I can say the same.
