The Beast From The East hit us this week and, once again, I was embarrassed by how quickly the UK falls apart with just a wee bit of snow. I mean, I get it; we get it so rarely that investing in an infrastructure that can handle it doesn't make the greatest amount of sense, but it's incredibly frustrating!
The snow started Tuesday night and the roads were pretty slippy driving to work on Wednesday. A red weather warning came in that morning and our offices closed at 3 that afternoon. Thursday, despite the end of the red alert, was actually worse! Work was open 10-4 but our car park hadn't been touched (despite us having a contract with a local firm who should have cleared it) and getting in and out of it was an adventure. Evryone kind of banded together though and there was lots of helping people out with a push of their car which was kind of nice. Honestly though, I look at the kind of snow other countries cope with and I despair of us!
Rather frustratingly, I actually had plans this weekend for a change which ended up cancelled because of the bad weather! Friday night I was supposed to be going to a painting class (there's a local company called Paint It Up which hosts these two hour events where an instructor talks you through a painting, kind of like Bob Ross but with alcohol) and on Saturday George and I were gonna go to Dunfermline Comic Con.
The painting thing has been rebooked for later this month but the con was completely cancelled.
The worst of the weather seems to be over now though so hopefully next week will be a bit more exciting! It's strange how much I resent being stuck in the house by necessity when it's something I usually choose to do anyway!
What do you know? It's actually been a pretty productive week! Probably because the bad weather kept me inside.
I finished Star Trek Discovery and have fallen in love with Paul Stamets (and back in love with Anthony Rapp who I became slightly obsessed with about ten years ago when I first saw Rent). So much so that I wrote my first non-SGA fanfic in over a year! It didn't get much feedback or attention but I really love the pairing so I'll probably write them again.
I also added a couple of chapters to Three's Company which is my McShep fic with Sentinel!Rodney and Guide!Radek. I have so many ideas for this 'verse that I've bit the bullet and marked it as a WIP with 19 chapters planned, one for each episode of season 1. I love writing the particular dynamic I have set up in this verse and I adore writing Rodney and Radek friendship. I'm hoping the episode format will be easy to keep up with as things at work start to get more and more hectic as the financial year end approaches.
Year end usually goes one of two ways for me. I either use fic to escape the stress and become super prolific or I have zero motivation to write and my productivity dips way down. It will be interesting to see which way it goes this year!
